It was SO stinking HOT this evening! Oh my goodness! I learned a few things this evening, 1. I need to wear waterproof mascara while shooting in 90% humidity..... and 2. Alright, so I got to do an AMAZING engagement session tonight! I learned a few things... 1. when driving to a new location, make sure your cell phone is fully charged. 2. Today was such an amazing day, Megan and Rob allowed me to be a part of their little girls first day, by photographing her birth. It was the most miraculous, amazing thing I have ever done! I was blown away being able to witness the immense strength Megan had to have her daughter naturally. It was incredible. I just love everything girly, and with two little boys (whom I love dearly) the photos I get to take of them are usually them wrestling, or doing something gross... My kiddos have been sick this week, and there are only so many Pokemon episodes I can handle... so I watched some videos on using natural light in your home to get great portraits. So I thought I would give it a try. I used our North facing window and set a science board to the right of them to reflect some of the light. I think it worked great! And I love the expressions my boys gave me!!!

I got to spend a morning with my wonderfully sweet friend Kristin, playing with our new cameras! Of course we roped our children in to posing as models, and can I just say that Kristin's daughter is so so adorable! These were my favorite shots!

The other day I was sitting with my 3 year old watching him play with a magnet. He was so interested in why the large metal button stuck to the magnet, but the button wouldn't stick to the table. I would hand him other metal things, when they would stick he would giggle and say "look mom!" It was so awesome watching him explore. Then I noticed my coffee mug sitting right next to him. My sister in law made me the mug for Christmas. I LOVE it! It has a camera on one side and on the other it says "Find joy in the ordinary". I quickly snapped this photo and I can't get over how much it means to me. It is sweet to me because of the memory behind it, but more than that, it is special because it is what I want for this new year. I want to find joy in the ordinary. I love being able to meet new families and "capture beautiful" moments in their lives. I want to push myself this year to be watching for those "ordinary" moments during a session. I don't want to just simply "pose and shoot" but I want to also snap the photos that reflect the family's personality. I am taking these slower months to practice. Practice really noticing the ordinary. Finding joy in it, and of course... taking photos! :)
